Last Sunday night (21st Sept) as the Indonesian Distributor for Ditting Grinders, I headed off to Shanghai, China, to attend the opening ceremony of the Asia Pacific office of the Hemro Group.
The Hemro group was formed when the German premium coffee grinder manufacturer Mahlkönig and the Swiss grinder specialist Ditting, which were brought together in 2007 under the Swiss holding Hemro AG (based in Bachenbülach, Switzerland), and further strengthened last year due to the participation in the Italian grinder manufacturer Anfim.
All of the Asian Pacific distributors of the various brands (Mahlkönig, Ditting & Anfim) converged on Shanghai for this auspicious occasion. The official opening ceremony was then followed by a dinner where Philipp Baumberger (CEO – Hemro Group) laid out the future vision for the company and the region.
The following day was a tour of JASCAFFE facilities, which is probably the 3 largest coffee distributor in Asia. The owner, Mr. Jason Wang took time out of his busy schedule to personally guide the group through his very impressive operation. JASCAFFE currently has 10 Q graders on staff, a licensed training facility for Q Grading, accredited SCAE & SCAA trainers and the supplier of 90+ Coffee for greater China.
Ending the tour, we were lucky enough to cup some outstanding coffee from the 90+ range which were either from Ethiopia or Panama.
A lot of coffee and management ideas learnt are soon to be implemented in Caswells. (Peter Slack)
